Rebel group compels elderly men to join its militias in Gedo region

Young militant fighter leads a group of gun-wielding militia men
Al-Shabaab militant group in Bardera district of Gedo region has on Tuesday ordered elders and youths in the district to participate in their war against the government troops in the region.
One of the area militant leaders Abass Abdullahi issued the order in a public gathering, saying that both elderly men and young boys should enrolled themselves in joining their militias in a recently established new training camp on the outskirt of the town.
He said they will soon commence trainings for new recruits including elderly men and young boys in order to give the necessary military trainings needed for them to join the group’s battle with government.
The militant leader also ordered locals to close down their businesses and avail themselves for a lecture detailing the legality of the group’s war against the Somali government.
A number of male youths have already fled the as in fear of forceful conscription by the militia group.
