Kismayo Drivers Complain About Al-shabab’s Fees
Kismaayo: Bar-kulan- Drivers in Kismayo town are complaining of the fee Al-shabab militia group is illegally collecting from the road users.
Al-Shabab militias are collecting money from both public service and private vehicles in the town. Some of the drivers who contacted Bar-kulan’s in the Juba region said that they could not afford to pay the amount Al-shabab is demanding.
Al-shabab most senior official in Kismayo, Hassan Yakub, announced that the money collected from the road users will be used to finance their war with the government and African Union Peacekeepers.
Al-shabab has recently started collecting money from residents of the areas they control. They have even extorted ear rings and jewelry from women in some of the areas.
The militia, which controls most of the regions in Southern Somalia, wants to overthrow the UN backed Transitional Federal Government.
