Al-Shabab Militias Kill Peacekeepers

Bar-kulan: Fighters of the Al-shabab rebel group have attacked African Union (AU) peacekeepers in Mogadishu and killed four Ugandan soldiers.

On Monday the troops, members of the AMISOM force, were killed when the Shabab militias fired mortars at the presidential palace, known as “Vila Somalia.”

Nine other peacekeepers were injured during the attack. The troops provide security for the Transitional Federal Government and strategic areas in the capital.

The TFG also announced that their forces have killed twelve Shabab fighters and injured more than forty others. The militias were killed and injured when the TFG forces attacked a house in Bakara, which serves as the main operational camp for the insurgent group.

Al-Shabab has been trying to control the strategic Maka Al-Mukarama road, which is the only road that leads to the presidential palace, for over a week.

More than a hundred civilians have also been killed during the eight days of fighting in the Somali capital as Mogadishu residents continue to flee the on-going, endless violence.

Bar-kulan.
