Somali Foreign Minister Clarifies AU’s Resolutions on Somalia

Bar-kulan: Kampala- Somalia’s foreign affairs minister Yussuf Deg today addressed the media in Kampala. The minister clarified some of the AU summit’s resolutions on Somalia.

Foreign affairs minister Yusuf Deg said that the AU member countries have agreed on the following resolutions about Somalia; to strengthen the AMISOM force by increasing the number of troops, to change the mandate of the force from peace keeping to peace making and support the TFG.

The minister said that the TFG is optimistic on the implementation of the resolutions reached in the summit. Yusuf Dag also confirmed that President Sheriff Sheikh Ahmed had separate talks with different African leaders.

Talks on Somalia’s situation have overshadowed other agendas in the summit after the Al-shabab militia group in Somalia claimed the July 11 twin bombings in Kampala the killed 76 people.

The AU’s summit in Kampala is expected to produce better policies and decisions on Somalia that may change the situation in the war-torn country.
