Somaliland’s New President Sworn in

Hargaysa: Bar-kulan: Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud (Silanyo) has been sworn in today as the new president of Somaliland.  Silanyo was sworn in by Somaliland’s chief justice Mohamed Hirsi Omane.

Vice president Abdirrahman Abdullahi ismail also took his oath of office today.  The two leaders later addressed briefly the people of Somaliland.

The former president Dahir Rayale Kahin who was present at the ceremony congratulated his successor.  Kahin reminded Silanyo that there was a big task a head of him and pledged to work with the new president.

President Silanyo on his part promised to govern Somaliland with justice and transparency.  He also said that he will announce his new cabinet tomorrow and address the citizens.

After the swearing of President Silanyo, his predicesor Dahir Rayle Kahin left the presidential palace and headed to his personal house in Hargeysa.

Ahmed Mohamud Silanyo had won the June 26 polls that were declared by the international observers as free and fair. Former president Dahir Riyale Kahin has also fulfilled his earlier pledge of resigning gracefully.
